Approximately, 80-90% of all dogs have some form of behavioural issue resulting in anxiety, destruction of the owner-dog bond and the surrendering of pets to shelters. The design solution involves various kits to address specific behavioural problems. The focus for this project was on the puppy kit.
Kits addressing different dog behavourial issues. Focus on puppies as this is the most important stage of training to avoid severe behavioural issues in later life. There are four complex aspects of puppy training: bonding, socialisation, separation anxiety and effective play.
The four main components of puppy training are bonding, socialisation, interaction and play. Bonding refers to play between two or more puppies or the owner and the puppy. Socialisation is the most important aspect of puppy training, it refers to the exposure of the puppy to stimuli such as sounds that ensures the puppy does not become anxious or agressive later on. Interactive play when the owner is not present is vital to ensuring that the puppy does not develop separation anxiety. Effective play that engages the puppies brain is vital for engagment within training.
The training system is delivered through the connected app. This application tailors training and provides daily activities for a dogs specific needs and the owners experience level. The app is a simple and easy means of delivering training instructions both written and visually. The ability to provide further training and progression over time is readily available on an online platform. Furthermore, trainers are able to upload their own training programs. This is due to the research indicating that each trainer teaches differently and each owner learns differently. This allows instructions to be tailored to each individuals needs.
